Northwest Cooperative Development Center

NWCDC provides guidance to start-up, conversion, and existing co-ops. Dedicated cooperative development practitioners help establish and strengthen democratically organized businesses to ensure sound governance and operational oversight.

About

The Northwest Cooperative Development Center fosters community economic development primarily through the cooperative business model. NWCDC concentrates on four key areas: general cooperative business development, housing cooperatives, cooperative financing, and cooperative education. General cooperative business development includes a specific focus on home care agencies, conversion of existing businesses cooperative enterprises, and technical assistance for existing cooperatives; however, NWCDC also provides service for start-up cooperatives regardless of the economic sector. Housing services involve the conversion of mobile home parks into resident-owned communities and technical assistance for developing limited equity multi-family housing. Financial services provide micro-loans for cooperatives and connect people with cooperative-friendly lenders. Education programs include one-to-one presentations on the co-op model, a 10-week boot camp academy, and partnerships with higher education institutions.NWCDC collaborates with other cooperative developers throughout the United States, such as the Workers to Owners Collaborative and CooperationWorks! to bring additional expertise and knowledge to our work. While we primarily work in the cooperative sector, there are reasons that people may choose to opt for a limited liability company or not-for-profit model. As long as these businesses commit to the co-op principles, especially that of democratic governance, we can provide assistance within our mission.
